Q+A: Strawberries Dropping
ELLA ASKED:
Could you kindly advise why my strawberries are dropping at an early stage?
Response:
We have an insect here in Ontario called the tarnished plant bug.
It causes stunted fruit that will sometimes abort--and even if they don't, the fruit are small and flavourless.
This is the only cause I have had in my garden for fruit aborting at an early stage.
There could certainly be other causes.
In general, stress to the plants can cause fruit to drop before ripening. Consider if your plants have been exposed to stresses such as extreme cold, drought, or heat.
