Q+A: Planting Tomatoes
CLIFF ASKED:
Someone told me to plant my tomatoes deep. How deep should I plant them?
Response:
Some plants don’t take kindly to being planted deeply.
But tomatoes are different.
They send out roots from any portion of the stem that you bury.
This is good, because often tomato transplants get gangly.
Plant them so that what remains above ground is a compact plant, unlikely to be tossed back and forth in the wind.
