About Garden Writer Steven Biggs

WHO
AS A LIFE-LONG GARDENER, I’ve managed to garden wherever I’ve lived—creating allotment gardens, container gardens, indoor gardens, and gardens in the overgrown backyards of rented houses.

Along with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture (horticultural science major), my work experience spans plant propagation, greenhouses, biological controls, nursery and conservatory plants, and horticultural supplies.

WHY
Growing vegetables shouldn’t seem exotic. It’s straightforward stuff.

As a horticulturist and life-long gardener, I built this website to share practical gardening experience. As a writer and journalist, I use it to give frank opinions about what you need...and what you don’t.

My goal is to serve up gardening advice in a simple, no-nonsense way.

WHAT
I am a communicator.

As a journalist and writer, I have three interrelated focus areas: gardening, farming, and food. You can read some of my articles about food and agriculture on my website www.stevenbiggs.com .

WHERE
I garden in Toronto, Canada, with the help of my kids, who you can read about on this website. I cook with my wife Shelley, whose name you’ll also find in these pages.

ZESTFUL, FUN, INFORMATION-PACKED, OPINIONATED—even slightly irreverent—this graphic-novel-meets-gardening-book empowers readers to make their own decisions in the vegetable garden because the authors, two garden coaches, talk frankly about issues…and don’t always agree.
