No Guff Vegetable Gardening
ZESTFUL, FUN, INFORMATION-PACKED, OPINIONATED—even slightly irreverent—this graphic-novel-meets-gardening-book empowers readers to make their own decisions in the vegetable garden because the authors, two garden coaches, talk frankly about issues…and don’t always agree.

"YOUR BOOK HAS CHANGED MY LIFE,” declared one reader. The reader said such accessible information was truly empowering.
They're Different
Balzer and Biggs: Boomer and Gen Xer. Lots of differences, yet lots in common too.Donna Balzer and Steven Biggs are gardeners, horticulturists, and garden coaches living in different time zones and climates—and in different stages of life (she’s a boomer-grandmother, and he’s a Gen Xer with three small children). Both urban gardeners, Balzer has a soft spot for gadgetry, while Biggs tends to be cheap.
But...Have Lots in Common
Despite their differences, they find they have a lot in common, including a belief that gardening is a lot easier than most people think, and a disdain for unnecessarily complicated advice. They both see the soil as the foundation of success in the garden.
Know-How for Everyone
Instead of thinking about gardening in a zone-focused way, they take the concepts of weather and microclimate and give gardeners ideas for stretching the season.

Praise for No Guff Vegetable Gardening
“No guff. Lots of fun” is the subtitle on this all-Canadian book. The expression on the faces of the two authors tells you that they mean it before you open the book. My friend, from our HGTV days, Donna Balzer, signed up with first-time author Steven Biggs to create a book that addresses the fastest growing trend in gardening today: food gardening.
Garden expert, broadcaster, and writer Mark Cullen
"Occasionally in a librarian’s life (retired or otherwise), a book will arrive that causes immediate bibliomania. A book that is so different, so appealing, and upon reading it, so completely perfect, that it must be shown with great excitement to everyone who loves books." ...
Susan Yates for the Gabriola Sounder
"Energy emanates from this book, which seems odd since it’s about growing vegetables. But don’t underestimate the passion Donna Balzer and Steven Biggs have for veggies." ...
